Bobby Ray Payne, 74, of Jolo, WV, while surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord and Savior December 29, 2019 after battling many health issues for some time.
Bobby was born September 15, 1945 in Paynesville, WV a son of the late Ballard and Rodie Matney Payne.   
In addition to his parents, Ballard and Rodie Payne, Bobby was preceded in death by his stepmother, Hazel Baker Payne; sister, Lois Johnson; brothers, David Lee Payne, James William Payne and Harold Dean Payne; and a step great grandson, E.J.
Those left behind are his wife of nearly 54 years, Brenda Harrison Payne of the home; one daughter Libby Payne and daughter-in-law, Darlene Smith of North Carolina; one son, John Payne from Jolo, WV;  and  two granddaughters, Amber and Jessica Payne both from Jonesborough, TN; two step granddaughters, Sheena Buchan  and Tana Sturgeon both of North Carolina; 8 step great grandchildren all from North Carolina; One brother, Leslie Payne and Wife Nancy of Paynesville, WV and a host of Nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Bobby was a longtime member of the Crossview Church of Christ.  He was a retired UMWA coal miner, retiring from VA Crews Coal Company in Iaeger, WV.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed in Alaska.  Bobby loved to fish, hunt and garden and he loved to share his bounty with others.  He was a man that put God first and was a devoted Christian husband, wonderful father, and grandfather.  He was a great friend and neighbor; the first to lend a helping hand and the last to ask for one.  Bobby will be missed by so many that loved him; but he left behind his footprints in our hearts.
Friends may visit with the family after 5 p.m. Thursday evening, January 2, 2020 at the Crossview Church of Christ, 1315 Panther Ridge Road, Grundy, VA, where services will be held at 7 p.m. with Evangelist Hobert Kennedy and Evangelist Charlie Johnson officiating.
Services will be conducted Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11 o’clock with a procession following to Rosewood Cemetery, N Jefferson St., Lewisburg WV for burial. Serving as pallbearers will be Noah Harrison, Frankie Harrison, Junior Payne, James Stacy, Jimmy Blankenship, Aster Ward, Bill Mullins and Mike Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be Earnest Kennedy and Bobby Lester.
