Denvail Mack Shumate, 73, of Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at his residence. He was born Aug. 25, 1946, in Welch, McDowell County, West Virginia, to the late Mack and Virginia Hawks Shumate.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Brice Shumate, Warren Shumate and Jeff Shumate; and one sister Veronica Mitchell.
Mr. Shumate had worked as a supervisor at Paxar and was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitnel, where he was an active member but most of all a Christian. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Bentley Shumate of the home; one son,Jody Nelson of Lenoir; two daughters, Donna Nelson Barnes and husband Jim of Granite Falls, and Angel Nelson Greer and husband Jody of Lenoir; three sisters, Beverley Peak and husband David of Welch, West Virginia, Margo Stevenson and husband Bill of Tennessee, and Ginger carter of Roderville, West Virginia; Special brother-in-law Paul Mitchell of Welch, WV; Special Sister-in-law Rhonda Shumate of Hensley; six grandchildren, Nicole Nelson, Jonathan Hice, Brandon Nelson and wife Kayla, Jake Shatley, Ashlynn Nelson and Josie Nelson; two great-grandchildren Madelynn Nelson and Aubree Nelson; and his faithful dog, Pepper Shumate.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Whitnel conducted by the Rev. Steve Hedgecock.
Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir with military honors provided by Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and the National Guard.
