Rev. Eric Arden King, 54 of Iaeger, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 5th 2019 after a long illness.
Eric was born June 10, 1965 in Welch, West Virginia a son of Russell and Frances Haynes King. He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith and attended church at Christ Cathedral. Eric was a 1983 graduate of Iaeger High School. He then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in biology from Concord University. He then pursued post-graduate education at Marshall University where he received a master’s degree in psychology. He had a special interest and certification in School Psychology as well. He was employed as a school psychologist in Cabell County, West Virginia, Mount Sterling, Kentucky and then, McDowell County, West Virginia until retirement. He was proud of his education and was a remarkably intelligent person. Although education was important to him, he was also most proud of his ordination as a minister with the United Pentecostal Church. He loved to read about historical events and to study his bible. He passed his love of learning to his son of whom he was most proud. Eric enjoyed directing choir and teaching Sunday School, fishing, reading, cooking, playing the organ and singing for the Lord. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh and tell stories that you would never forget.
Eric was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Lillian King as well as his maternal grandparents, Dave and Goldie Haynes. He was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish the memories are his parents, Reverend Russell and Frances King of Iaeger. Also left to carry on his name and heritage was his pride and joy, his son, Elliott King of Mount Sterling, Kentucky. He has one sister, Theresa Tolliver of Iaeger. A nephew and his wife, Chris and Courtney Riffe of Iaeger. A niece, Chelsea Riffe of Iaeger. And one great-nephew, Grayson Riffe of Iaeger. He also has a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Pallbearers will be Chris Riffe, Marty Lawrence, David Blankenship, Ryan King, Kevin Stanley, and Rick Addair.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 9th at 1pm at Christ Cathedral in Iaeger, West Virginia with services conducted by Pastor Joel Urshan and Bishop E. S. Harper.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 8th from 6pm to 9pm at the Christ Cathedral in Iaeger with service at 7pm.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia on Sunday, November 10th, 2019. For those wishing to travel with the family to the cemetery, the funeral procession will be leaving Christ Cathedral at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
