Juanita Myers Alford, 90, of Princeton formerly of Elbert, died suddenly Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born November 25, 1929 at Elbert, she was the daughter of the late Charles N. Myers and Nannie Geneva Wooldridge Myers.
Juanita was a graduate of Gary High School, Class of 1947. Years later when her daughter became a Coaldigger, she was a booster mom offering hot dogs and hot chocolate at every home football game (even to the Maroon Waves fans at the Gary/Welch games, Dickie). She retired from the West Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs in Welch with 25 years of service treating every veteran she assisted like one of her eight brothers who served in the military. Juanita was a member of the Gary American Legion Auxiliary Unit #38. As a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, she made lifelong friends such as Carol Riggins, Helen Elswick, Betty Heizer, Gertie Stone, Josephine Cavallo, Alice Nofsinger, and many more. She was a faithful attendee at Princeton Advent Christian Church. Juanita will long be remembered for her love and generosity towards her family, her meticulous organizational skills, and her ability to go into “Juanita” mode whenever there was a crisis. For instance, she left a detailed list for Sue Ellen and Amy to follow to make sure everything was done.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jarrell C. Alford along with 9 siblings; Margie Dula, Lois Childress, Howard, Orville, Fremont, Wade, Bill, Roger and Donald Myers. Also, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dora and Heath Alford.
Those left to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughter & son in law, Sue Ellen & Dick Widener, a caring granddaughter and her husband, Amy & Shane Harrison, and her two beautiful great grandchildren Abby Kinzer and Noah Harrison all of Princeton. Two siblings, Ralph & Judy Myers of Welch, Doris Hermes of Carlsbad, CA and a host of nieces and nephews.
