CHARLES DALTON JR.

Charles Dalton Jr., a long time resident of Thorpe, WV,  who departed this life early on Tuesday, at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV.  Born and raised in Thorpe, Charles was the son of the late Charles Dalton Sr., and Bernice L. Stewart-Dalton.  He was a 1967 graduate of Gary District High School, and received his certification in welding from the McDowell Vocational Technical Center in Welch, WV.  As a youth, he attended Bible Study with his grandparents, James and Anna Lee Stewart, and joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Thorpe.   Later he became a member of Miracle Mt. Carmel Holiness Church of God in Kimball, WV under the pastoral ship of the late Bishop Arnie H. Joyce.  In earlier years, he was employed at U. S. Steel #50 mines in Pineville, WV.  He relocated to Hampton, VA where he was employed at the shipyards as a welder.  While living in Detroit, MI, he worked at the Dell Industry for several years.  Charles possessed great leadership and people skills.  He enjoyed playing basketball, was an avid golfer, and was both a chess and checker player and a ping pong champion.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents; three brothers:  Oakley, Tony and Bobby; an uncle, Johnny Moore and his parents-in-law, Nannie and Benjamin P. Brogdon Sr., his brothers-in-law, Overseer Benjamin (Lillian) Brogdon Jr. and Elder Lewis O. Brogdon Sr.,  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bishop Designate Izalliar Brogdon Dalton; his children:  Wendy M. Dalton of Thorpe, Nia M. Dalton and Charles Dalton both of Detroit and Ronald Madison, whom he regarded as a son; one brother, Ronald (Priscilla) Dalton of Gary; sisters:  Lannie F. Dalton of Detroit, Carolyn (Tony) Wilson and Robin Y. (Darin) Ransaw of Hampton; four grandchildren:  Abigail, Charles, Chaze and Chase; one brother-in-law, Deacon Robert E. (Helen) Brogdon Sr.,of Gary; sisters-in-law:  Missionary Grace “Alfreda” (James) Craighead of Bluefield, Elder Bonita Mitchell of Charleston, WV and Prophetess Earleen Brogdon of Alexandria, VA; a host of many close relatives and a special aunt, Peggy Moore of Hampton; his classmates and long time friends:  Elwood Hairston, Alan Giles, Clinton Giles, Scott Swayne and Ricky Gilliam; two special friends and caregivers, Raymond Thomas and Robert (Christine) Gilliam.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church, 104 Park Street in Bluefield, WV. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch.
