King James Burks, 75 of Carswell Hollow passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 at his residence
after along illness. Born February 2, 1944 in Kimball, WV, he was the son of the late Alex Burks
and Ida Sizemore Burks.
King worked as a coal truck driver for Phillips Coal Company for 20+ years and later for C&G
Leasing Inc. of Beckley, WV. He was a proud member of the UMWA, a faithful member of the
Laurel Creek Church of God where he was Trustee and Sunday School teacher. He was a devoted family
man. He enjoyed reading books, “especially the Bible”, camping, hunting, gardening, and
spending time in the mountains.
Other than his parents, King was preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Burks Bailey and two brothers,
Billy and Jack Burks, and several half brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Judith Smith Burks. His son,
James “Michael” Burks and wife Jane. Two daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Burks and husband
Eddie Patrick and Ashley Burks all of Kimball, WV. Four grandchildren; Johnathan Burks of
Lexington, KY, Sarah Burks and Randall Johnson of Princeton, WV, Jeremy Burks and wife Megan,
Shannon Burks, and Gabriella Burks all of Kimball. Great-grandchild, Bentlee Burks of Kimball.
Two sisters, Lois Burks Poff of Willis, VA, and Maggie Burks Moody and husband Gene of Brenton.
Sister-in-law Betty Burks Blevins of Raleigh County along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Caregivers, Dina Bryson of McDowell County Commission on Aging who became part of our family.
Hospice Amedisys staff, especially Felicity Auville, RN who always went the extra mile.
In honoring the wishes of King James Burks, Cremation occurred upon his passing.
Memorial Services celebrating his life will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 in the Widener Funeral
Home Chapel, Northfork, WV at 2: PM with Pastor Charles Triplett and Preacher Charles Casey
Officiating. The family will receive visitors, family/friends from 1: PM until the hour of service.
