
NEW RICHMOND – Freshman Garrett Mitchell sank a pair of free throws Tuesday evening with 11 seconds left in regulation to propel Wyoming East to a 51-50 victory over the Liberty Raleigh Raiders.
Mitchell, the Warriors’ starting point guard, finished his evening’s work with 14 points, while senior Jacob Bishop topped East scoring with 16.
Sophomore Adam Drennen led the Raiders with 18 points, while junior Braden Howell recorded 12. Seniors Ethan Hill and Nathaniel Griffith added 10 each, as only four Liberty Raleigh players got into the scoring act.
The Raiders led 50-49 when Mitchell was fouled and went to the line to pull out the win.
Liberty held a 30-20 advantage at the break before the Warriors battled back to outscore the Raleigh Countians 31-20 in the final two frames, including 20-9 in the third chapter.
East is now 6-11 and will visit Westside Friday evening, while Liberty is 7-8 and will host Independence tomorrow evening.
