Bobby Joe Bolen, Sr. age 77 of War, WV died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Hospice of House of Southern West Virginia in Beckley, WV. He was born January 17, 1943 in McDowell County, WV and was a son of the late Gethie Bolen and Katherine Roseann Peirce McCoy. Mr. Bolen had worked for many years as a coal miner and enjoyed gardening, horses and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in War, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a very special friend, Debra Bolen; one son, Johnny Willow Bolen; one grandson, Hayden Bolen; two brothers, James Bolen and Randy Bolen; three sisters, Geraldine Taylor, Lisa Taylor and Mildred Bolen.
Survivors include, twelve children, Wanda Hagerman of Princeton, WV, David Bolen and wife, Cathy of Asheboro, NC, Timothy Steele, Joe Bolen and wife, Jessica of North Carolina, Becky VanDyke and companion, Tommy Perkins of Squire, WV, Tonya Dalton and husband, Steven of Morgantown, WV, James “Bear” Bolen and wife, Angie of Marion, VA, Eric Bolen and wife, Ashley of War, WV, Jessica Perkins and husband, James “Punky” Perkins of Marion, WV, Michael Click and companion, Sara Harmon of War, WV, Haley Ault and husband, Shawn of Gary, WV and Odes Bolen of War, WV; five sisters, Vee Reed and husband, Bill of Indiana, Theada Keene and husband, Roger of Dallas, NC, Frankie Bolen and husband, Randy of North Carolina, Susan Spencer of Indiana, and Laura Jolene Mitchell of Berwind, WV; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Joe Bolen, Sr. will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in War, WV with Reverend Spencer Oxford officiating. Burial will follow at the Hick’s Family Cemetery in Big Creek, WV. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020.
