NEW RICHMOND – The Westside Lady Renegades captured the Class AA Region III Section 1 championship Wednesday evening with a 46-44 nail-biting victory over Wyoming East.
The winners jumped out to an 18-5 advantage at the end of the inaugural chapter and held off several Lady Warrior comeback attempts throughout the final three frames.
Senior Westside point guard Makayla Morgan led her team with 16 points, followed by 13 by fellow senior Riana Kenneda and 10 by twelfth grader Hannah Toler.

Now 17-7, the Lady Renegades will take on the loser of tonight’s Section 2 title game between Bluefield and PikeView next week, with a trip to the state tournament going to the winner of that Regional contest.
East was led in scoring by junior Sky Davidson Wednesday evening, while sophomore Daisha Summers added 13.
The Lady Warriors, now 15-6, will face the winner of tonight’s Bluefield-PikeView match, also next week, with a trip to the state tournament hanging in the balance for the victor of that game.
