CHARLESTON – The 2020 West Virginia Girls’ High School State Basketball Tournament tipped off this morning at 9:30 at the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum, featuring four Class AA quarterfinals and two AAA matchups. Thursday will have a quartet of Class A quarterfinals and the other two AAA showdowns, with the semifinals coming Friday in all three classes and the three championship games Saturday.
In this morning’s third game, seventh seed Westside, 18-7, will square-off against second-seed Winfield, 23-2.
This is the Lady Renegades’ first trip to the state tourney since they won it all in 2014.
The head Westside coach this season is Darren Thomas, who was an assistant coach on that 2014 state championship squad, with Jamie Lusk as the head coach.
The winner of today’s Westside-Winfield contest will face the winner of today’s inaugural game between Fairmont and PikeView Friday morning in one semifinal meeting.
