CHARLESTON – How close did Mount View come to being able to advance to a now-postponed West Virginia Boys’ State Basketball Tournament? In the end, call it about eight minutes!
Wednesday evening the Golden Knights battled back from a 17-9 deficit after the opening chapter, outscored their hosts in the second and fourth quarters, but could not overcome an eight minute third period when the Irish outscored the View 18-1 to pull off a 50-34 victory.
The trio of Zion Suddeth, Thomas Blaydes and Aiden Satterfield led the 19-5 Irish in scoring against the Golden Knights. Juniors Suddeth and Satterfield tossed in 12 and 10 points respectively and senior Blaydes contributed 11.
Mount View concluded the season 11-14 and was led in scoring Wednesday by sophomore
Brendon Rotenberry’s 8 points.
The Knights trailed 43-19 heading into the final frame and outgunned Catholic 15-7 in that quarter, but the 18-1 differential in the third was just too much to overcome.
