Benneta “Tex” Smith, 63 of Algoma, WV passed away Monday, March 16, at McDowell County Continuous Home after a short illness. She was born January 23, 1957 in Welch, WV to
Mrs. Mildred Lowe Smith and the late Benjamin “Bennie” Smith of Algoma, WV. “Tex” was a lifelong member of Mt. Ebenezer Baptist Church where she was active in several auxiliaries. She was a faithful member and loved her church until her health began to fail. She attended school in
McDowell County and was a 1976 graduate of Northfork High School. “Tex” loved to read, particularly the “Church News Column” of the local news papers.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Moyer and Nettie Lowe, of Gary, WV and her paternal grandparents, Charles “Charlie” Smith and Viola Smith of Algoma, WV; her uncles Robert Smith and John Smith of Algoma, WV, and Robert “Coot” Rosenbalm of Gary, WV. Her cousin, Rennae Lowe of Detroit, Michigan.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Mildred Lowe Smith, she is survived by her sister; Jo Ann Smith of the home (who was her caretaker), her brothers; Nathaniel Smith of the home (who was her caretaker) and Ambrosia Smith of Wilcoe, WV, aunts; Mrs. Gwen Rosenbalm, Winston Salem, NC, Mrs. Roberta Smith, Winston Salem, NC, and Elder Georgia Smith, Kimball, WV. Her uncle; Mr. Nathaniel “Nat” (Sarah) Lowe, Detroit, MI, Her niece; Teonna Smith, Detroit, MI. Her special cousins; Mrs. Delores (Lerov) Johnson, Wilcoe, WV, Robin Rosenbalm, Winston Salem, NC, Mrs. Natalie (Mark) Patterson, Detroit, MI, John (Evang. Billie) Smith, Ridgley, WV, Walter Smith, Ft. Washington, MD, Anna Simms, Winston Salem, NC, Audrey Smith, Wilkesboro, NC, Adrianne (Thurston) Stokes, Winston Salem, NC, Carrie Smith, Kimball, WV, Lutica (David) McDaniel, Simpsonville, SC, Vanessa (Elder John) Hale, Princeton, WV. A home-going service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 in the Mt. Ebenezer Baptist Church, Algoma, WV at 12: Noon with Pastor Timothy Hairston officiating. Burial will follow at
Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Route 20, Bluefield, WV. Friends may call from 11: AM until the hour of service. Pallbearers and flower bearers will be family and friends.
