Phyllis Ramona “Herky” Novak, 84, of Coalwood, passed away Monday, April 6, 2020 at her residence. Born October 15, 1935 in Coalwood she was the daughter of the late Virginia Josie Sheets Hylton and Raymond Franklin Hylton.
She was a former employee at the G. C. Murphy Company, as Assistant Manager for several years and also worked at U.S. Jewelers both in Welch. She was a member of the Coalwood Pentecostal Holiness Church and a graduate of Big Creek High School.
In addition to her parents Herky was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, John Douglas and Billy Ray Hylton; six sisters, Lorraine Dorcas Rose, Mary Puckett, Wanda Faith Hylton, Edith Spencer, Regina Adams and Ruth Hylton.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Joe Novak and a great nephew Alex Rose of the home; one son, Joe “Tony” Novak and wife Jami Stewart of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Kimberly Susan Novak-Jones and husband Kenneth Jones of Chapel Hill, NC; one brother, Harold “Pick” Hylton of Coalwood; three grandchildren, Michael A. Jones and wife Anya Boverman-Wray of Laurel, MD, J. B. Novak and Grace Novak both of Raleigh, NC.
Private Graveside Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM from the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, with Pastor Brenda Hall officiating.
Due to the current health situation there will be no visitation. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date.
