Roy Dawson, 78, of Rural Retreat VA, formerly of Sandy Huff, WV, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2020.

Roy was born December 19, 1941 in Iaeger, WV a son of the late James and Hattie Waldon Dawson.  He was a United States Marine Veteran, a coal miner, truck driver, mechanic, and carpenter.  He was truly a jack of all trades and was of the Baptist faith.     

In addition to his parents, James and Hattie Dawson, Roy was preceded in death by one son, Michael R. Dawson; three brothers, Woodrow “Woody” Dawson, Earnest “Harry” Dawson, and Eugene Dawson; and one sister, Loraine Sherman.

Survivors include, one daughter, Regina Robinson and husband Kenton of Gilbert, WV; two sons, Roy C. Dawson and wife Beth of Westfield, Massachusetts and Christopher M. Dawson of Chicopee, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, Daniel B. and fiancée, Laura, Noah E., Jamie, Brooklyn, Nathan, Gavin, Gabriella, and Ava Rose; two sisters, Elsie Dupuis of New Hampshire and Lucille Hummel of Utha; four brothers, Wilburn “Web” Dawson of Massachusetts, Carl Dawson of Indiana, Clinton Dawson of Massachusetts, and Douglas Dawson of Iaeger; two special nieces, Donna Lynde and her son James “JC” and his “quarter girl” Ann Saalfrank; and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 1 o’clock with Pastor Kenneth Pool officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV.  Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #1144 following the service.

Burial will follow in the Dawson Cemetery on Atwell Mountain near Atwell, WV.   Serving as pallbearers will be Kenton Robinson, Blake Robinson, Jeffrey Hatfield, Eric Gravely, Calvin Riffe, Greg Hurley, and Gabriel Plumley.   

Friends may visit with the family Saturday morning, May 9, 2020 at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger from 12 noon until time of services at 1.
