John Wilson Gates, 72, of Athen died Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Cassell’s Board and Care in Princeton. Born October 30, 1947 in War, WV he was the son of the late Harry E. Gates and Anice Oxley Gates. John was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Athens. He was an avid sports fan, especially for Big Creek High School, Concord University and WVU. He is survived by one aunt, Millie Gates of Princeton; and several cousins. A private family service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 and burial will follow at Athens Cemetery in Athens.
