McDowell County Offices Reopening Monday, Safety Guidelines in Place

WELCH, WV – Beginning Monday, May 18, 2020 the McDowell County Courthouse and other County Offices will be open to the public under the following guidelines:

While opening to the public again, customers are encouraged to continue paying taxes online, using the drop boxes outside the Courthouse entrance or calling the appropriate office (numbers listed below.) Scheduling appointments is still preferred at this time as well.

County Officials ask that no one feeling sick or with a ill member of the household enter the premises at this time due to safety precautions. Only two individuals will be permitted inside each office at a time. Those waiting will be required to remain 6 feet away from one another.

Only the person conducting business will be allowed into the building unless one requires assistance. Once in office, visitors are asked to remain behind the plexiglass barriers. Masks are also strongly recommended to be worn inside the County Buildings.

County Staff will also be subject to safety guidelines during the reopening.

Each Department head will determine their employees schedule and masks will be required when assisting customers.

Unnecessary visits to other offices will be prohibited, and the County asks that all employees wash their hands frequently. Gloves have been provided to use at their own discretion and counters are encouraged to be subject to disinfection often.

The County also asks of its employees that if they are sick or a family member is ill, then stay home.

Department Heads will continue to check temperatures each morning with a daily log being maintained and kept in each office of every visitor, including staff and public. All offices are asked to designate one employee for this task.

On Monday, May 18th, 2020, office hours at the McDowell County Courthouse will be from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with all offices closed from 12 to 1:00 p.m. for lunch. Restrooms will remain closed to the public at this time.
