Sandra (Sandy) Hylton, 77, of Salem, VA, formerly of Big Four, WV, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Roanoke Carilion Hospital following a short illness.
Sandy was born on August 26, 1942, to the late Eltrue and Laura (Scarberry) Gordon of Big Four, WV. She was a member of the “Dirty Dozen” of Big Four Hill and the “Gordon Girls”.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Richard (Dickie), Jerry & Eddie Gordon, her sisters, Patricia (Gay) Lynch, Audrey Goins, Bonita, & Jewel Gordon.
Born with a fire in her soul and her fists ready, Sandy was a true fighter. She fought for causes and those she loved. She defended those she loved fiercely.
Sandy was an overcomer. She overcame an accident which broke both her legs, an aneurysm, and brain surgery.
Sandy was a free spirit and enjoyed traveling. When she took a notion to see a new place or visit a friend or family, nothing stood in her way. Her travels took her to many different destinations and blessed those whom she visited.
Sandy enjoyed attending church and singing. Sandy was always ready to testify for the Lord and sing praises to His name.
While we will greatly miss Sandy and her readiness for adventure and her wonderful singing, she had a “standing invitation to a Hallelujah spell”. We know, without a doubt, she is standing on the other side, with the saints of old, singing and shouting “Hallelujah” to her King & Savior! Sandy has been reunited with her loved ones gone before.
Sandy is survived by her brother, Rodney (Tubby) Gordon, her sisters, Sylvia Hall, Caroline Mitchem, & Venetia Brand, her sons, Warren Jr, Wayne, Williard, & their families, and a host of nephews, nieces & cousins.
Sandy’s family will have a small memorial service at the Day Family Cemetery on top of Belcher Mountain on Friday, May 29, 2020.
