HENRY BURTON “DOUBLE OUT” BELCHER


Bluefield, WV- Henry Burton “Double Out” Belcher, 68, of Bluefield, WV, died Friday May 22, 2020 in Beckley, WV. Born November 25, 1951 in Welch, WV, he was a son of the late Dr. Hal Burton Belcher and Clara Louise Brown Belcher.
Mr. Belcher was a graduate of Welch High School, and he graduated from Bluefield State College with an Education degree. He retired from the U.S. Navy. He was an avid fan of Appy League Baseball, with a long-time love for the Bluefield Orioles and then the Bluefield Blue Jays. He was a familiar face and a sounding voice at Bowen Field since 1957, and he had been feature in a Vice World of Sports documentary on minor league baseball. He was an avid reader, enjoyed history, and liked to watch TV and movies. Survivors include his sister, Betty Walrod and husband Dan of Cary, NC; nephews and niece, Dr. Hal Walrod, Clark Walrod, and Paige Petersen; and two grand-nephews, Brayden Walrod and Grayson Walrod.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday June 5, 2020. Immediately following, there will be a graveside service at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bluefield with Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
