Verner “Dale” Lester, 69, of Huff Creek, WV passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center surrounded by his wife Christine, and children Toby and Levi following a brief illness.  Dale was born December 26, 1950.  He was the son of Woodrow “Woody” and Lois Lester.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Clinton “Jr.” Lester, Donald Lee Lester, and sister Zandra Lester Holleron.

He was survived by his wife of 47 years, Christine England Lester; sons Toby (Amy) Lester of Garden City, South Carolina, and Levi Lester of Huff Creek, West Virginia; grandson Ethan Lester; a brother, Tony Lester; and a sister, Claudine McCrady. 

Dale loved hunting, fishing, and joking with friends.  He was generous beyond words.  It was common for Dale to give his knife to a kid or his hunting rifle to someone who needed one.  He loved taking kids hunting and fishing.  Many children owe their first hunting and fishing trip to Dale.  

Dale was beloved by his family and friends.  He never met someone he didn’t talk too, and you could always tell where Dale was in the crowd as people would be laughing.  For instance, the nurses at the hospital moved his chair out to their station because they loved talking to him. 

As long as we live, Dale too will live, for he is a part of us.  While Dale will be greatly missed by his family and friends, his generosity and spirit will live on through the lives he touched. 

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 2 o’clock with Preacher Jeff Dorton and Reverend Gary Walker officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger.

Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until time of services at 2 o’clock.  Burial will follow in the England Cemetery at Hanover. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. 

Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced.
