Gary Police to Host Swim Party as Drug Free Event

WELCH, W.Va. – The Gary City Police Department has rented the Linkous Park Pool, Friday, July 31st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to host a free swim party as July’s Drug Free event.
“We are trying to host an event each month to allow kids an opportunity for Drug Free and COVID safe activities,” said Gary Chief of Police S.P. “Pat” McKinney. “The Mayor and Council support me in this 100 percent. We hold these events, not only for Gary kids, but any kids that can attend because a kid is a kid and all are precious. If we can give a child a few hours of worry free fun with all that’s going on, we are accomplishing our Community Policing goal.”
An extra lifeguard has been scheduled for the event and parents are encouraged to join their children. Masks are recommended when not swimming or eating. Pizza and soda will be given out by members of the Gary City government, The Welch News Staff and other volunteers.
“As always for these events, the community has stepped up,” said McKinney. “Elby Hairston Trucking paid the pool rental and the Copper Ridge Landfill bought food and drinks. The community of Gary and surrounding areas are great to support anything for the kids.”
