WILLIAM DAVID LINDSEY SR.

William David Lindsey Sr., age 84, a life long resident of Hemphill, WV, who departed this life early on Sunday, July 12, 2020 in Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.  He was born September 17, 1935 in Hemphill and the son of the late John D. Sr. and Elnora (Brooks) Lindsey. After completing his education at Kimball High School, he began working at Doctors’ Memorial Hospital in Welch, WV. After many years of employment, he retired as a Supervisor in June of 1997 from the Department of Highways.  He was of the Baptist faith, a “people person,” and his most favorite pastimes were spent sitting on his porch and watching wrestling on television.   

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela; five siblings:  Archie Hansbury, John D. Lindsey Jr., Charlene Evans, Demetrius Hardman and Geraldine Saunders.  He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, family man and a loyal friend.  

He leaves treasured memories to his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Lindsey; their children:  William D. (Pam) Lindsey Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Charles D. Lindsey of Bedford , OH, Patricia (Michael Sr.) Lindsey-Vaughn of Hemphill and Curtis D. Lindsey of the home; one brother, Joseph Lindsey and four sisters:  Rena Logan, Linda Cameron, Parthenia Harrell and Gracie (Quentin) White  all of Columbus, OH; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; 22 nephews and nieces; one sister-in-law, Pamela Lindsey of Bluefield, WV and a host of other relatives and friends, which includes; special friends and neighbors, Kim Culbertson and Rosa Smith.  

Mr. Lindsey’s Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church 315 Court Street, Welch, WV, with the Reverend George Masterson officiant, assisted by the Reverend Larry Hairston.  Entombment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 6605 New Hope Road, Bluewell, WV.  His Family will serve as pallbearers.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., until the time of Service.
