GARY, W.Va. – A discharged patient from McDowell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has recently tested positive for COVID-19, Center officials announced Friday afternoon, prompting testing for all staff and residents.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are testing all patients and employees to isolate and identify any possible spread of the virus in our center,” said Center officials in a social media release.

The facility had announced on Wednesday, July 29th they would be moving to ‘Phase Blue’, which restricts visitation. This decision was by recommendation of the McDowell County Health Department with the number of rising cases in the area.

“We continue taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our patients and employees according to CDC guidelines to prevent the further spread of this virus,” said Center officials.
