REV. GLEN DOUGLAS BLANKENSHIP


Rev. Glen Douglas Blankenship, 78, of Big Sandy, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at his residence. Born October 18, 1941 in Big Sandy, he was the son of the late Julius Blankenship and Mandy Mullins Blankenship.
Douglas was a former coal miner and a Baptist minister for many years and he was the former Pastor of the Big Jenny Freewill Baptist Church at Big Jenny. He was a member of the Ikes Fork Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Earl Blankenship; one sister, Helen Kennedy and one granddaughter, Samantha Lucas.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Emma Jean Jones Blankenship of the home; three sons, Eric Blankenship and wife Candie of Hickory, NC, Tony Blankenship and wife Sandi of Elbert and Calvin Lucas and wife Patty of Tazewell, VA; one brother, Bob Blankenship and wife June of Canton, OH; two sisters, Carol Lester of Princeton and Shelby Cox of Davy; eight grandchildren, Anthony (Doug) Blankenship, Dakota Blankenship, Kierstein Lester, Eva Grace Blankenship, Savanna Hagerman, Paige, Samuel and Caleb Blankenship; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 10, 2020 at 1:00 pm from the Big Jenny Freewill Baptist Church in Big Jenny with the Reverend Homer Blankenship and Reverend Merve White officiating. Burial will follow at the Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing will be practiced.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000 or to your favorite charity.
