The former Huntington High School closed at the end of the 1995-96 school year.
That August, the students from the former Huntington High joined with students from the former Huntington East in a new school that was also named Huntington High School.
In an effort to bring something from both former high schools to the new one, the new school’s mascot was called the Highlanders, the name chosen from the mascot of Huntington East.
The former Huntington High School athletic teams were known as the Pony Express.
