MILDRED “NAN” FIELDS WARD

Mildred “Nan” Fields Ward, 101, went to her new home in Heaven Friday, August 14, 2020.  

Mildred was born December 12, 1918 in Berwind, WV, a daughter of the late Josiah and Laura Marrs Robinson.  Mildred worked as a cashier and was an employee of the McDowell County Board of Education where she worked as a cook and later an aide.  She retired from the school system as an aide and then for several years proudly babysit over 25 children.  Mildred was the last surviving member of her original family.

In addition to his parents, Josiah and Laura Robinson, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Clyde Fields; second husband, Joe Ward; daughter Janie Fields; granddaughter, Jennifer Fields; granddaughter-in-law, Shelia Rice, son-in-law, Harvey Rice; brother, Raymond Robinsons; and sisters, Thelma Givens and Bernice Rose.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Rice, with whom she made her home; son Michael Fields and wife Tammy; grandsons, Alan Rice and fiancée Linda, and Stephen Fields and wife Angela; great grandsons, Jacob Rice and wife Hayley, Shane Fields and Zachary Fields; and great granddaughter, Michaela Mathena.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 12 o’clock with Reverend Randall Dority and Pastor Ernie Williams officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger.  Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefiled/Tazewell Road in Bluefield, VA.  Serving as pallbearers will be her son, Michael Fields, grandsons, Alan Rice and Stephen Fields, great grandson, Jacob Rice, friends, Mike Dority and Frank Nash. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, Shane Fields, and Zachary Fields, Nephew, Frank Givens, special friends Jimmy Crouse, Butch Bivens and Leonard Shirley.

Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel in Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 11:00 am till services

Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines; mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced with no more than 25 people in attendance.
