EVA IRVIN

It is with great sadness that the family of Eva Irvin of Tazewell, VA, announce her passing. She celebrated her 90th birthday in April and passed away peacefully on August 18th at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital. The family wasn’t able to be with her due to COVID restrictions, but she was blessed with great care from the staff.

Eva was deservedly proud of her Bachelor of Science in Education degree that she received from Bluefield State College. She drove long hours for ten years to both BSC and Concord University while raising and taking care of her family. After graduating Eva worked for the McDowell County School Board from October 1964 to December 1972. After retiring she substituted in Tazewell County because she loved working with kids.
The Emmanuel Baptist Church in War, and all its members, was near and dear to her heart. She attended and volunteered with all activities that she could and will be greatly missed.
Eva Irvin (April 15, 1930-August 18, 2020) was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Tilda Ward; brothers, Frank Ward and Roy Ward; and sisters, Patty Payne and Odella Hicks, all of Warriormine, WV. She was married to the late Robert Lough, and after his death, she married the late Dr. Gene Irvin.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her arrival with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, are her children, Robert (Bob) Lough and wife, Patsy, of Gibsonville, NC; Dorothy Oxford and husband, Spencer, of War; and Larry and the late Sarita Lough of Tazewell, VA; her grandchildren, David Oxford, Bobby Lough, Paula Sparks, Chad Lough, Jennifer Flippin, Leslie Payne and Brent Lough; great grandchildren, Shane Flippin, Courtney Schilling, Hunter Sparks, Drew Flippin, Jenna Flippin, Tristan Lough, Savannah Lough, Kaitlyn Oxford, Laken Sparks, and Davis Lough. Eva was also blessed to have one great, great grandchild, Camden Lough. Also left to remember Eva are her sisters, Shirley Scott of Warriormine, and Ruth Baker and husband, Eddie of Knoxville, TN. She had a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will also miss her quick wit and sense of humor.
Graveside service for family will be held at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA on Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Spencer Oxford, son-in-law officiating.
The family will hold a memorial service to honor her memory at a later date.
