Leatha Elsie Bonds, 96, of Northfork, WV, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, August 22, 2020 at her residence after a brief illness. Born September 21, 1923 in Yanceyville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hannah Johnson .
Leatha was raised in West Virginia where she spent the remainder of her life. She attended the McDowell County School Systems and later became a homemaker and enjoyed baking cakes and pies.She would often get in her favorite chair by the kitchen door and enjoyed watching her family play cards. Leatha was a faithful member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Worth, WV enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a cheerful person and never met a stranger. She was kind and friendly to everyone and touched the lives of many.
Other than her parents, Leatha was preceded in death by her husband, Henry D avid Bonds Sr. Three daughters: Edna, Virgie and Mildred; One son, Donald Bonds; Two grands ons, Raymond Berger and David Holt; One great- grandson, Raheem Bonds; Six brothers and four sisters.
Leatha leaves to cherish her great memories, sons, David (Karolynn) Bonds of Toledo, OH. Tyrone (Donna) Bonds of Waterbury, CT. Ricco (Latarsha) Bonds of Welch, WV. Daughters; Louise (Rodney) Hairston of Princeton, WV. and Evelyn Hayes of the home whom she resided with and took care of until she departed this world. One sister, Henrietta
Mack who is the last of the Johnson Siblings. A very special person who was always there when we needed her help in taking care of our mother, Mrs. Elena Armstead. Leatha was also blessed with 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the Galilee B aptist Church, Worth, WV at 12: Noon with Rev. Timothy Hairston officiating. Burial will follow a t Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Route 20, Bluefield, WV. Friends may call from 11: AM until the hour of service.
