On Friday, September 4, 2020, a positive COVID-19 case was confirmed at Southside K-8 School, announced McDowell County Schools via social media Sunday, September 6th, 2020.

Students and staff known to be exposed have been quarantined. The McDowell County Health Department will conduct further contact tracing.

Deep cleaning and disinfecting of all affected areas impacted have been completed.
