Dan Riley, 65 of Berwind, WV passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born November 12, 1954 at Tazewell, VA he was a son of the late Hugh P. Riley, Jr. and Lena Harris Riley. He was of the Christian faith, was active in his community and worked hard toward seeing McDowell County prosper.
He was a very giving person, always willing to help, enjoyed fishing and loved being a mentor to younger people. He was a contractor with McDowell County Economic Development, was awarded various certificates and became a federal inspector for FEMA and the Army Corp of Engineers. Dan was currently the Chairman of the CIAD Board, and had previously served on the Ambulance Authority and Coalfields Expressway Boards. He had held the following positions: Redevelopment Authority Director, Floodplain Manager, Building Inspector, Holding Unit Inspector, Asbestos Inspector, and Abatement Supervisor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Terrill.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Riley; Kevin’s mother, Brenda Riley of Pipestem, WV; daughter in law, Brenda Riley; brother, Hugh P. Riley, III of Berwind, WV; sisters, Joyce Hart and husband, Darrell “Bo” Hart of Conway, SC, Janice Egnor of Ohio, Debbie Justus of Tazewell, Barbara Riley of Lebanon, VA, and Jennifer Jordan and husband, Jerry of Berwind, WV; granddaughter, Sarah Mae.
In Keeping with his wishes there will be cremation. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at Canebrake Freewill Baptist Church, Canebrake, WV Where a memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m.
