Council of Southern Mountains to Host “You’re Covered” Virus Project

WELCH, WV – The Council of the Southern Mountains is leading volunteers to help with COVID-19 by hosting the “You’re Covered” community action project.
This project will provide the community with personal protective equipment such as facemasks for adults and children.
There will be bags distributed with a number of items to help families and individuals in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The overall goal of the project is to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus throughout McDowell County communities.
The project will occur on October 8, 2020. The volunteers for the project from the agency’s Foster Grandparent and Retired Senior
Volunteer Programs will gather that morning to assemble the packages of protective equipment. The volunteers will then distribute the bags in communities across the County.
Randal Johnson, Executive Director of the Council of the Southern Mountains commended Brittani Arndt, student placement at the agency to complete her Master of Social Work degree, for her work in putting this project together.
“This distribution of vital protective equipment is needed for area residents unable to obtain these supplies, “Johnson stated.
This project is made possible with support by Volunteer West Virginia.
The Council of the Southern Mountains received a $250 mini-grant from Volunteer WV to host a Be Kind, COVID-19 volunteer project.
Area businesses also contributed to the project. Volunteer West Virginia started the Be Kind, COVID-19 campaign to spread kindness and volunteerism during the pandemic. To learn more visit www.volunteer.wv.org.
