The Welch Lions to Gather On Saturday

WELCH, W.Va. – On Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, the Mighty Welch Lions will gather at their Lions Hut on Premier Mountain, Rt. 52, next to Goodson’s Super Market.
Chairman Wayne Hicks reported to the club that the hut was in need of some badly needed sprucing up to make it ready for the holiday season.

“Our venerable old club has been a fixture of the Welch area for 82 years and during that time has engaged in many charitable activities and sponsored numerous community activities,” said Mike Callaway. “Countless people in our area have benefited from our sight conservation projects where we finance optical examinations, purchase glasses, and recycle old glass frames. This activity is not just local but world-wide.’

“We endeavor to make sure that local athletes of the present and the past are not forgotten through the McDowell County Sports Hall of Fame that is the brainchild of the Welch Lions Club,” continued Callaway. “Except for a hiatus due to the Covid-19 epidemic we have honored our local senior citizens through our “Welch Lion Club Old Timers Night.” We will reestablish this tradition once this terrible affliction is over. Many youngsters, athletes and cheerleaders have proudly worn the Lions logo on the backs of their youth attire.”

The Lions will be working on their hut on Oct. 3, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.. until 2:00 p.m.

“We invite any of our friends to drop in and say hello and we might just put a brush or hammer in your hand,” said Callaway.
