Patricia Ann Hairston Easley (Patti), 80, peacefully passed away in Charleston, WV, at the home of her son, Tyrone Hairston, on October 22, 2020. Born March 4, 1940, in Welch, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Zander Hairston and Lillie Mae Vineyard Hairston.
Educated in McDowell County, she graduated from Gary District High School. At an early age, along with her father and her two sisters, Ruby and Dinah, Patti was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Wilcoe, WV. Patti remained a faithful member of First Baptist all of her life, where she served in the usher, choir, and culinary ministries. Although she worked at Welch Emergency Hospital a number of years, her greatest passion was as a homemaker. Her window dressings were admired by all who passed by her home.
Well-loved in her community and McDowell County, Patti was known for strutting through the streets as only she could. Her lemon tarts and other luscious treats and dishes will be missed by many. Until her health did not permit, Patti unassumingly ministered to the elderly and sick in the neighborhood and care facilities. As a care facility resident herself, her liveliness and spunkiness cheered many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Easley, Sr. and her sisters, Joyce Prewitt, Veronica Martin, Belinda Davis, and Ruby Hairston.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, who were the sunshine of her life; Tyrone (Lee) Hairston of Charleston, WV and Phillip (Jennifer) Shoats of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters, Dinah (the late Floyd) Freeman of Westbury, NY, Norma (Link) Abrams of Tuscaloosa, AL; brothers, Elwood (Beverly) Hairston, Lorenzo “L.D.” (Marceletta) Hairston, and Steven Hairston, all of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Tyrone Jr., Alesia, and Charity Hairston of Charleston, WV, Philesha Shoats of Rochester, NY, Chevonne Shoats of Ithaca, NY, Phillip and Jacqueline Shoats of Baton Rouge, LA; special grandson, Antonio Easley; great grandsons, Tyrone Ill and Elijah; stepchildren, Larissa and George (Colen) Easley, Karen Brown, and Steven (Angela) Easley; special nephews, Keith Hairston, Andre Davis; and a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbors, and friends. We love you Patti!!!
A Celebration of her Life will be held, Monday, Oct. 2, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at Preston Funeral Home in Charleston, WV. The service will also be live streamed from the Preston Funeral Home website.
