River View football playoff hopes remained alive Tuesday as the final regular season football ratings were released by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission (WVSSAC) leading up to the year-end rankings this weekend that will shine a light on the top sixteen teams in each classification for next week’s playoff opening round.
The Raiders will carry a 4-3 record into this Friday night’s regular season finale at Mitch Estep Field as the 5-3 Sherman Tide comes calling for what is a “must win” for the View to have a shot at making the elite 16 in Class A.
Mount View’s hopes were dashed last evening in a 43-20 setback to Lincoln County at Hamlin.
The Golden Knights, rated 26th in Class A prior to last evening’s game are 3-6 and were at 26th in yesterday’s rankings.
Tug Valley at 3-0 and given new life by the SSAC’s change to allow teams with three games over this covid-19 impacted season to be eligible for the playoffs are atop the Class A rankings.
Sissonville leads AA with a 5-0 slate.
Westside is 21st at 2-2, while Wyoming East is 31st with a 1-4 worksheet. Both Westside and the Warriors are idle this week.
South Charleston is ranked number one in Class AAA, also at 5-0.
