Geneva B. Hatfield, 91, of Mohawk, WV, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV.
Geneva was born March 4, 1929, in Bull Creek, a daughter of the late Wise and Judy Lester Bailey. She was baptized June 28, 1972 and was a member of the Church of Christ at Sandy Huff. Geneva taught school in McDowell County for 32 years; she retired from Iaeger Elementary June 14, 1985. In her earlier days Geneva loved fishing. She was the last surviving member of her original family.
In addition to her parents, Wise and Judy Bailey, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Drewey Hatfield, Jr. and several siblings.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy Hatfield and wife Carolyn of Cornelius, NC. Special thanks to her neighbors who have helped her especially Randall and Wanda Hatfield and Kenny Coleman.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1 o’clock with the minister from the Church of Christ at Sandy Huff officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in Iaeger Memorial Cemetery at Roderfield, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m.
Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced with no more than 25 people in attendance.
