Calvary Baptist Church has received a combined $6040.00 grant from Beckley Area Foundation to support its community by offering tutoring and homework help to students in grades 1-3. The award comes from the Landry Family Grant Fund and the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund at the Community Foundation.
Pastor Chad Hooker of Calvary Baptist Church, said the funds would be used to help students of McDowell County learn sight words, increase vocabulary, and strengthen spelling skills. We will also be providing snacks to students and hot meals for students and their families.
“Without funding we would not have the ability to come alongside our community to aid the children who call McDowell County home” Pastor Chad Hooker said. “At this time, we are only able to serve 15 students in order to stay within COVID guidelines. Our goal is to help our children learn while keeping them safe and healthy. We pray this number can increase in the future.”
An Open House was held Wednesday April 21, 2021 and more dates have been planned, each Wednesday from May 5, 2021 through July 28, 2021 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
