Josie Matney,88, of Atwell Mountain passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at CAMC General in Charleston, WV.
Josie was born January 14, 1933, in Raysal, WV a daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Kennedy Short. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  
In addition to her parents, Thomas and Martha Short, Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Matney; one son, Ralph Matney; stepchildren, Albert Matney, Ulysis Matney, Henry Matney and Lucille Keen; a grandson, Lewis (Louie) Short Jr; brothers, Mike Short, Noah (Doc) Short and James (Jim) Short; sisters, Alice Short, Bookie Puckett, Dora Cook, Lillian Atwell, Mary Walls, Orpha Atwell and Laura Baker and a son-in-law, Roy Earl Pruitt.
Survivors include sons, Benny (Ruthie) Matney of Bradshaw, William Matney of Atwell, Charles (Barbara) Matney all of Atwell, Lum (Anna) Matney of Justice, and Crockett (Sherry) Matney of Atwell; daughters, Dorothy (Lewis) Short, Orpha (Junior) Hicks and Linda (Irving) Blevins all of Atwell, Deborah (Teddy) Stacy of Raysal and Melena (Jeff) Grizzel of Jolo; brother, John (Sharon) Short of Atwell; sister-in-law, Lorene Short; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.    
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 2 o’clock with Reverend Herman Day and Reverend Ellis Hagerman officiating at the residence of Josie Matney on Atwell Mountain. Burial will follow in the Matney Cemetery on Atwell Mountain near Atwell, WV.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday evening, May 1, 2021 at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines, mask are to be worn by all attending and social distancing is to be practiced.
