Remembering Thurman William “Toby” Belcher, Kermit Cars Owner

Thurman William “Toby” Belcher, 74, of Hemphill passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born January 23, 1947 in Matewan, WV he was the son of the late Mary New Belcher. He was the owner and manager of Kermit Kars in Welch, and was a member of the Gary Pentecostal Holiness Church. He loved his friends and family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his son Paul Dean Belcher, and a sister Ruby Riffe.

Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Linda Smith Belcher of the home; a daughter, Mary Green and husband Virgil of Hemphill; three brothers, Dave Belcher of Asheboro, NC, Jordan Belcher and wife Barb of Phelps, KY, and Ance Belcher and wife Joy of Varney, WV; two sisters, Sarah ”Poe” Botkins and Ninetta Chambers both of Hemphill.; two grandchildren, Kayla Epperson of Welch and John “BoBo” Rose and wife Kristie of Hemphill; four great grandchildren, Dalton Burbett, Anthony “Little Man” Epperson, Tobias Epperson and Hayleigh Rose; and special friends in his life, Pete Green, Jeff Adkins, Crystal Green, Paul Bolden and Linda Bishop.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, April 29, at 1 p.m. in Trinity Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Welch with Reverend Virgil Green officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.

Friends may call at the church Wednesday, April 28, after 6 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Joe Joe Mullins, Bo Rose, Johnithan Bishop, Mike Brooks, Sam Ward and Robert Lauderback. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Hamilton.
