CHARLESTON – The Wyoming East Lady Warriors rolled past the Mingo Central Lady Miners
Wednesday evening in the Class AA quarterfinal round 60-32 to advance to today’s semifinal match-up against Petersburg in the girls’ basketball state tourney at the Charleston Coliseum and
Civic Center.
Senior All-Stater Skylar Davidson paced the Lady Warriors with 19 points, 10 steals, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Junior Daisha Summers tallied 12 points, while grabbing a team high 9 rebounds.
Madisyn Curry and Scarlett Thomason led Mingo Central with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Curry hauled down a game-high 17 rebounds.
Nine different East players got into the scoring act, while only three Mingo girls broke into the scoring column.
With the score tied at five, the Lady Warriors reeled off 11 consecutive points en route to a 22-8 first quarter advantage.
Sophomores Abby Russell and Kayley Bane started the run. Russell sank a jumper and then a free throw, followed by two Bane foul shots. Freshman Madison Clark scored a deuce, followed by two Summers’ freebies before Davidson closed out the run with a layup.
A 14-6 second chapter pushed the Lady Warrior lead to 36-14 at the break before standing a 46-24 after three, as the teams battled on even terms in the third.
East closed out the final eight minutes in 14-8 fashion for the 60-32 decision.
