Welch Man Arrested for First Degree Murder

WELCH, W.Va. – After responding to a reported shooting early Friday morning, City of Welch Police Department arrested a Welch man for murder.

According to a Criminal Complaint filed with the McDowell County Magistrate Court, Chief T. E. Vineyard responded to the home of Jhamel Scott, 23, on Stewart Street in Welch after the 911 Center had advised that a shooting had occurred at the residence.

Chief Vineyard arrived on scene and noticed the defendant was standing outside. After asking where the victim was and securing the weapon, Vineyard went inside the residence to check on the victim, read the Criminal Complaint.

Inside, Chief Vineyard discovered the victim had been shot with a .357 Magnum revolver. The victim, Summer Robinette, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:02 a.m. early Friday morning, said Vineyard in the Criminal Complaint.

Jhamel Scott was arrested for First Degree Murder and arraigned before Magistrate Danny Mitchell.
