PIPESTEM, WV – After two years of celebrating virtually, Appalachian South Folklife Center will host the 16th annual Earth Day Celebration in-person on Saturday, April 23rd from 11am-11pm. The event will feature live music, kids’ activities, workshops, presentations, and creative activities at the beautiful facility in Pipestem, which recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary.

The day will feature music performances by Independent State, Option 22, CassiRaye, James Hart, Tim & Maggie, Jordan Furrow and Derian Mills, as well as a Birds of Prey presentation by Three Rivers Avian Center, beekeeping with Jay & Felicia Cox, and a Mushroom Walk with E.B Fungi, a new business set to open soon in The Grassroots District of downtown Princeton. There will be yoga, sound healing, meditation, reiki, and massage with practitioners from The Gaia Den, a sound healing & peace meditation by Windhorse Healing Arts and live painting and workshops with The Pigment Sanctuary. Kids activities include a plant propagation party with Leslie Caneda, tie-dying for kids with Jillian Firth, make a wire tree with artist Isaac Preston and other crafts.

Delicious food and drink will be available for purchase served by Bucha Brewhouse & Bistro, and artisan vendors include Mooncraft Botanicals, Awakened Artwork, RiffRaff Arts Collective, The Pigment Sanctuary, Meish Claus, and more.
Organizers say the best part of the day is experiencing the unmatched beauty and breathtaking mountain views at the Appalachian South Folklife Center. The facility features swing sets and open fields, and people of all ages are encouraged to attend.

The music performances are presented by McArts, with funding from WV Department of Arts, Culture & History. Director Jean Battlo said, “The phoenix is finally flying over McDowell County again, and we are happy to support musicians with WV roots performing at this event.”
The day’s activities are free of charge and are sponsored by LLyniuM entertainment, RiffRaff Arts Collective and McArts, with assistance from WV Department of Arts, Culture and History.
