Alice Louise (Kelly) Thomas

Alice Louise (Kelly) Thomas, 94, of 310 Ridgecrest Rd Bluefield, WV formerly of Landgraff, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the home of her loving daughter and friend, Patricia, following a brief illness.

Born May 12, 1927 in Beckley, WV to Lacy Kelly Sr. and Eunice Turpin Kelly. After the death of her father, Alice was raised in Bartley, WV by her mother and stepfather, Bishop Wilfred L. Dickerson. She graduated from Excelsior High School and continued her education at West Virginia Institute of Technology, Bluefield State College, and Appalachian Bible College. Alice retired from the McDowell County Board of Education where she spent 26 years as an educator at Tidewater and Kimball Elementary schools.

She was a member of First AME Zion Church of Bluefield and the Kimball Community Choir.  She enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, doing artwork, organizing activities, and dancing. She loved helping others and always saw the best in everyone.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John “Ned” Thomas; her son, W. Dexter Simon; her stepsons, John Jr., and Tony Thomas; her brother, Lacy Kelly Jr.; her son-in-law, Roland Washington and her daughter-in-law, Christine Simon.

Alice cherished her family and will be deeply missed by all of those she leaves behind;  her daughter, Patricia Washington of Wilcoe, WV; her grandchildren, Benita and Ezekiel Bennett of Bluefield, WV with whom she resided; her grandson, Cederick(Kayla) Thomas of Pittsburg, CA whom she raised and considered as her own; stepdaughters, Jawanda Gravely of Keystone, WV and Yolanda Keith of Northfork, WV; her stepson, Elwin(Angie) Thomas of Keystone, WV; her sister, Lillian Garner of Baltimore, MD; other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A CeIebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Wilcoe, WV with her Pastor, the Rev. Justina Young officiating, assisted by Pastor David Cooper.  Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens 6605 New Hope Road in Bluewell, WV.  Family and Friends will serve as both pallbearers and flower bearer.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Services entrusted to Gregory-Page Funeral Home in Welch, WV
