Raymond Atwell, 91, of Welch, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022 at his residence. Born July 6, 1931 in Rock View WV, he was the son of the late William A. Atwell and Augusta Farley Atwell.

    Raymond was a retired Chief School Bus Driver in the Welch area, for the McDowell County Board of Education following 23 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army. He enjoyed coon hunting in his spare time.

    In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Parsons Atwell; and three brothers, Odel William Atwell, Verlin Atwell, Justin Atwell.

    Those left to cherish his memories are one step daughter, Kay Parsons Miller and husband Vernon of Roanoke, VA; two step sons, Edward “Preacher” Parsons and wife Linda of Roanoke and Michael Parsons and wife Doris of Massillon, OH; sisters, Leola Brooks of Pineville and Goldie Allen of Oceana; a special nephew and care giver, Danny Allen of Welch; numerous nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 12:00 noon from the Douglas Mortuary Chapel in Welch with Reverend Scott Long, officiating. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Bluewell.

    Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

    Pallbearers will be family and friends.
