The Mount View Lady Golden Knights’ basketball team ended the 2022-23 season last
week, cancelling the remainder of the schedule after being unable to safely field a team.
The decision was made by the school’s administration after the Lady Knights had been
able to only play five games this campaign, winning their first contest before falling in the
next four.
In that season opener against Richwood, the Lady View only dressed six players and after
two fouled out, the Lady Knights finished the game with only four players, but that quartet was
able to hold off Richwood for the victory.
Prior to the beginning of the season, the Mount View boys’ team had to cancel its year
for the same reason, lack of players.
Remarked Golden Knight Athletic Director Lawrence Barber of the girls’ season ending,
“This (small turnout of players) has been an ongoing thing for the last several years with the
girls and as the season goes on the numbers (players) keep going down.”
